G & T's and fried aubergines...

Mary found her favorite gin and tonic taverna just down the street from our hotel. They also had great eggplant with a honey/molasses mixture drizzled over it. It is sliced thin, lightly tossed in either cornmeal or a panko-type mix and sautéed in olive oil. It comes warm with the dark sweet mixture drizzled, over the top - it's really good.

Everywhere we went the patios, railings and balconies were festive and beautiful.

Excavated remains of a Roman temple, found when the city hall was either demolished or being built.

We took a a bus trip to the archeological museum and active dig of the 10th century city of Madinat Al-Zahra. The museum was really great (it was awarded Europe's Museum of the Year in 2012).

They discovered the site in the 1920's and have excavated only about 10% of it. The city only lasted about 80 years and fell victim to looting of materials for other building projects.

You can see from the site the 15th century monastery that was built using some of the old city's materials.

Our Cordoba visit ended with a trip to the Museo Julio Romero de Torres, an artist who was born and lived in Cordoba in the early 20th century.
