On Thursday we found that we had failed to plan around the May 1 long weekend holiday and there were no train tickets available for our planned trip to Granada. So on Sunday, we said goodbye to Don y George, and boarded the bus to Granada.
The bus ride was long - almost 8 hrs. - but we went through some beautiful country - with views of the Mediterranean and as we headed inland beautiful countryside. Unfortunately, we also saw plenty of examples of dreadful overdevelopment along the coast.
The bus ride was quickly forgotten when we arrived at our apartment located in Granada's Albaycin section. This was the old Islamic part of town with its characteristic narrow winding streets/alleys, uphill from the city center and due west of the Alhambra. The view from our rooftop terrace was stunning as you see from the photo.
We immediately experienced the culture when we had dinner that night at a Moroccan restaurant and Mary had to settle for fresh lemonade with mint instead of a nice glass of good Spanish red wine.
