Some of our favorite things in Granada....

Making it back to our place, having walked up from the city center;

Sounds of live music, as you walk by an apartment, the conservatory, or as you sit on the terrace;

The warmth of the sun, and the gentle breeze that cools;

Sitting on our rooftop terrace, with our evening meal of cheese, crackers/bread, fruit, wine/water and treats from the pasteleria;

Menu del dia - the big meal served anytime in the afternoon where for less than 10 euros you get a choice from each of two courses (with multiple options for each course), a bebida/beverage, pan/bread, and a choice of a number of desserts;

Listening to the call of the whippoorwill, other bird songs, and the gurgling fountains as dusk arrives;

Los Italionos ice cream - watching the crew behind the long bar as they serve a never ending stream of customers, tourists and locals; the strong taste of the orange and lemon, the great pistachio and chocolate.

Smells of spices as you walk past the stalls by the cathedral;

Listening to street performers while sitting on a bench in the shade;

Cafe 4 gatos, our neighborhood cafe with great muesli, coffee and excellent whole wheat toast;

Being able to replenish your cell phone account at the tabacco shop, while buying stamps;

Looking at our neighborhood cat sitting in the window;

The friendliness and helpfulness of those strangers, who struggle to understand a visitor who does not speak their language, but try to help you with whatever you are trying to do;

The crowd scene at the Mirador de San Nicolas, where everyone comes for the best view of La Alhambra;

and then crossing the street to the quiet gardens of the mosque to enjoy the very same view.
